Fall 2024 Hackathon

 The 2024 HuBMAP Fall Hackathon will be held virtually with synchronous meetings on September 20th and October 4th, and asynchronous hackathon activities during the two weeks between, with a focus on the HuBMAP Data Portal Workspaces. 

Workspaces are a new feature on the HuBMAP Data Portal that enable lightweight exploration of public HuBMAP data and user-provided data using Python and R in a Jupyter Lab environment hosted by HuBMAP at no cost. The goal of this event is for members of the single-cell and spatial biology communities to test how the Workspaces functionality can facilitate their research, and to develop their own Jupyter Notebooks that can be made available as public templates for exploration of HuBMAP data.

The event will begin on Friday, September 20th with Hackathon Part 1, which will include virtual Workspace training sessions and optional team formation. Participants will then have two weeks to use and adapt existing Jupyter Notebook templates for their data analysis and visualization needs. The event will conclude with Hackathon Part 2 on Friday, October 4th, featuring virtual presentations of project results, discussions of challenges, and the formulation of high-priority next steps for Workspaces. Competitive prizes will be awarded.

Hackathon participants are asked to propose one or more projects in the following categories:

• Develop analysis templates for new analyses of HuBMAP data, e.g., templates that make functionality from existing analysis packages available in the HuBMAP Data Portal
• Conduct integrative analyses across data modalities and datasets
• Integrate HuBMAP and user-provided data, e.g., from other consortia, to address biological questions
• Other projects that take advantage of HuBMAP data and HuBMAP Workspaces infrastructure
